Deep Diver

Deep Diver was the name of a deep-sea scientific research submersible built by Edwin Albert Link. Deep Diver was the first small submersible designed for lockout diving, allowing divers to leave and enter the craft while underwater. It was first launched in January 1966.

Construction and design

Deep Diver was initially known as the Perry-Link #4 and was built in Riviera Beach, Florida by the Perry Submarine Company. Its name was subsequently changed to Deep Diver and its ownership transferred to Link's company, Ocean Systems, Inc. The submersible contained two compartments: a divers' compartment, developed from Link's earlier work with his Submersible Decompression Chamber (SDC), which allowed divers to be compressed to the ambient pressure of the ocean and leave the submersible to work underwater, and a pilots' compartment which remained at surface pressure, allowing the pilot and an observer to make dives without undergoing decompression. The two compartments were connected by a hatch which could be sealed off. Deep Diver was the first modern diver lock-out submersible.

Deep Diver (horse)

Deep Diver (foaled 1969) was an Irish-bred, British-trained Thoroughbred racehorse and sire. As a two-year-old in 1971 he won seven of his eleven races including the Brocklesby Stakes, July Stakes, Prix d'Arenberg, Cornwallis Stakes and Prix du Petit Couvert. In the following year he took time to reproduce his best form but emerged as the best sprinter in Europe with decisive wins in the Nunthorpe Stakes, Prix de l'Abbaye. Timeform rated Deep Diver the best racehorse of his generation in Europe at both two and three years of age. He has been retrospectively rated as one of the best British-trained sprinters of the 20th century. Deep Diver stood as a breeding stallion in Ireland, Australia and Japan but had little success as a sire of winners.

Background

Deep Diver was a strongly-built chestnut horse with a narrow white stripe bred at the Victor Stud in County Tipperary by George Harris. His sire, Gulf Pearl, won the Imperial Stakes in 1964 and the Chester Vase in 1965: he also sired the Coronation Cup winner Sea Chimes. Deep Diver's dam Miss Stephen never raced, but was a successful broodmare who also produced the Irish 2000 Guineas winner King's Company.

Loon

The loons (North America) or divers (UK/Ireland) are a group of aquatic birds found in many parts of North America and northern Eurasia. All living species of loons are members of the genus Gavia, family Gaviidae and order Gaviiformes.

Description

The loon, the size of a large duck or small goose, resembles these birds in shape when swimming. Like ducks and geese but unlike coots (which are Rallidae) and grebes (Podicipedidae), the loon's toes are connected by webbing. The bird may be confused with cormorants (Phalacrocoracidae), which are not too distant relatives of divers and like them are heavy set birds whose bellies – unlike those of ducks and geese – are submerged when swimming. Flying loons resemble plump geese with seagulls' wings that are relatively small in proportion to the bulky body. The bird points its head slightly upwards during swimming, but less so than cormorants. In flight the head droops more than in similar aquatic birds.

Diver (Transformers)

Diver is the name of several fictional characters in the Transformers series and major characters in their respective anime series. Both are heroic characters who specialize in underwater combat.

Transformers: Generation 1

Diver is a marine biologist. Out of the Autobots, he is the best skilled in oceanic combat. He knows everything about Earths seas, and can even understand a little of the fish language. His weapons include his Sea Power Blaster and Sea Axe. His final attack is the "Screw Anchor", where he turns his Sea Anchor on its head, and launches it at the enemy like a boomerang.

Diver was fond of humans, and thought them special.

Animated series

Diver was a regular character featured in the early episodes of the Japanese exclusive series Transformers: Super-God Masterforce. In this series, Diver's human form was that of a marine biologist.

Eight thousand years ago, a starship containing the Autobot Pretenders Metalhawk, Lander, Diver and Phoenix pursued the Decepticon Pretenders Blood, Dauros and Gilmer to Neolithic-era Earth, where they crashed. Using their Pretender abilities, the Autobots adopted the form of humans - not using simple external shells like in the American fiction, but actually transforming the very structure of their bodies into an organic equivalent, shrinking down to normal human size to hide in plain sight among burgeoning humanity. The Decepticon Pretenders, on the other hand, adopted the forms of monstrous creatures, becoming feared as demons by early man. After many battles, the Autobots succeeded in defeating their enemies and sealing them away for thousands of years—Blood in the pyramids of Egypt, Gilmer in the ruins of Atlantis, and Dauros beneath the Nazca Lines in Peru.

Diver (Nico Touches the Walls song)

"Diver" is the eighth single by Japanese rock band Nico Touches the Walls, released on January 12, 2011, from their third studio album "Passenger". The song was featured as the 8th opening of the anime Naruto Shippuden, from october 2010.

Background

In 2010, of all the new songs performed during the tour "Michi Naki Michi", "Diver" had the most requests to be released as a single. At the request of fans, the band brushed up the song, rearranging it after its initial concert version and presented it as the opening theme for "Naruto Shippuuden". The coupling track, "Yuujou Sanka", has only been performed once, at NICO's first ever one-band show, and the song had nearly disappeared. It was performed again during NICO's first school festival tour, and was widely talked about. It's an innovative song, filled with memories from Mitsumura's (vocal, guitar) own school festival. The bonus tracks were recorded at CC Lemon Hall, on October 7, at the 2010 concert "EastxWest Apollo and Luna ~Night of Luna~".

Deep (Silent Running album)

Deep is the third and final studio album from Belfast New Wave/rock band Silent Running, released in 1989.

Background

Despite the commercial failure of the band's 1987 album Walk on Fire and its two singles, the band began to record their second album for Atlantic Records.

Following the release of the Deep album, the band toured extensively after the album's release but split up shortly thereafter, citing a lack of record company support. The band would later reunite for one final performance at Belfast's Empire Music Hall to a capacity crowd in 1998. Reportedly, demos for the unreleased fourth album are widely available although unofficially only.

Like the previous two albums, Deep was a commercial failure.

The album's title is taken from the opening track "Deep in the Heart of Nowhere".

Both "Deep in the Heart of Nowhere" and "Local Hero" were released as promotional singles on CD in America only.

Recording

The first four tracks of the album were produced by the band themselves with Frankie LaRocka and Peter Denenberg, who both engineered the album. The rest of the tracks were produced by John Eden, whilst LaRocka and Deneberg remixed the tracks produced by Eden. The album was LaRocka's first attempt at production work, where he also played drums on part of the album. Originally, LaRocka had signed the band while working in the A&R department at Atlantic Records.
